It needs to be professionally presented, written with some originality, and include a brief description or synopsis with background or short bio of the author. If we wish to see more, we will request that you send us either the proposal, or sample chapters by email.
Do not send query letters in oversized envelopes. Send in regular size envelopes. Do not include more than 3 pages. Please do not send separate queries to all agents. Send to the agent most suited for your particular project. No need to send a SASE. If we are interested, we will contact you. be sure to include you email address and phone number.
Due to the number of queries we receive, we will only respond to those that are right for us.
Our preferences:
NONFICTION
We'd particularly like to hear from you if you are a journalist or published writer in magazines and newspapers, have expertise on the subject you're writing, together with media exposure and/or a speaking schedule.
FICTION
We'd like to hear from anyone who has had success with a previous novel. We do look at debut novels and it helps if you've been published in literary anthologies or magazines, if you have studied under well-known authors, or have an MFA. It's all about the writing of course but if great writing is accompanied by a marketing hook, that's a seductive combination.
